The not-for-profit organisation CompTIA - 'Computing Technology Industry Association' - was established in 1982. They've built through the years to become the number one in vendor-neutral IT certification. This basically means they're absolutely free to independently develop & monitor exams and accreditations which are needed by the IT market, regardless of a specific business' commercial interests. Because systems regularly 'converge' and inter-connect in the business world, this provides the I.T. student with a more wholesome knowledge and grasp of cross-platform integration. Every time a new exam is being assembled (or a previous one updated), CompTIA consults with leading associates of the commercial and educational world in order to create balanced & extremely relevant content.

In 2009 both programmes under-went up-dates, & new exams are now in existence for each of them. A+ examinations that began using the number 600 (i.e. the 2006-2007 edition) are being phased out globally. After August 31st '10 they will no longer be obtainable in the United Kingdom. As 2009 exams ('700') are already available at test centres across the country, these newer learning programs are probably a more valuable preference for anyone who is just starting out. A+ '09 is currently offered as '220/701' 'CompTIA' 'A+' Essentials & 220-702 'CompTIA' 'A+' Practical Application. The most crucial changes were a whole re-structuring of the earlier 4 examinations in to just 2 exams, & the inclusion of some teaching on more recent technologies. The old format was one compulsory 'essentials' examination & three electives, of which only one was required to be taken. But as the market has developed, the knowledge from all four examinations is now considered essential, & thus has been fine-tuned into 2 required exams. CompTIA have also introduced the BR-003 'up-grade' examination, for people certified in the 600 examinations who need to up-date to the current 700 examinations. Further training will almost certainly be needed, especially for those who only initially worked on 2 of the four 'electives'. Clearly though the newer technological subjects will have to be learned about.

With regards to 'Network+' , the earlier 'N10-003' has now been updated by the N10-004, the '2009' edition. Along with retaining its attention on network infrastructure & management, the updated 2009 examination points to an increased importance on security, wireless-networking skills & network design standards.

New starters in the I.T. sector can look to CompTIA for a good deal of their initial study packages. Wherever a student chooses to build a career in I.T., there are CompTIA certifications that will strengthen their skills. Individuals who are particularly interested in Networks, Support, Systems, Security, Servers and Communications are particularly well served. A new set of beginner-level programs called STRATA have been created by CompTIA. These are for people who need a more effective idea of basic IT information, but don't essentially work in IT themselves.

'CompTIA' 'Network+' opens up possibilities for Network Technicians & Administrators, IT Cable Installers & Network Installers.

These accreditations & employment options are often taken en-route to a more senior I.T. placement. Before you decide to opt for a particular training course, consider exactly where you plan for your career destination to be. Take the opportunity to go through everything with a training program & I.T. expert - it will protect you against set backs as time goes on. Many organisations also offer packaged career-tracks which include these accreditations, and so purchasing in a training bundle may offer significant cost-savings.

CompTIA 'A+' & Network+ are undoubtedly the most widely accepted of their qualifications. An exceptionally beneficial pair considered as a bundle, they are the kick off point for quite a number of successful career tracks. The 'CompTIA' A+ qualification covers the fundamentals of PC maintenance, security, installation, support, fault finding & repair. So that you can become established in the IT marketplace, the A+ also addresses a variety of communication and personal abilities. The Network+ takes the subject further, by building in a more in depth understanding of how networks function & connect with one another. Normal study-times for these exams are thought to be around 100-150 hours for the 'A+' , & 75 to 100 hours for the N+ . Studying part time, this could be accomplished over a half year period if you select the right quality of training matter and first-rate examination preparation products.
